I sent two beautiful thank you letters to my two interviewers from one Dept. after MLA. I was just now studying for my on campus interview and I realized I made a terrible faux pas - How should I handle this one oh experienced colleagues?:
It has JUST now come to my attention that I accidentally sent (addressed and sent) a thank you (only one of two) to the wrong faculty member!
I sent it to someone who IS in the department but did not interview me at MLA. How awkward! Any advice? Do I openly apologize or lay low unless someone mentions it? Sometimes it is best not to call attention to an error by apologizing... s.o.s.! On campus interview is very very soon. ~bedraggled

Forget it.  It’s likely the recipient of your erroneous email simply deleted it without giving it much thought or perhaps did not even open it.  Keep in mind that the professor in question is probably overwhelmed with email.  In any event do not complicate matters by trying to explain the situation to anyone.

I don't think the letter was an email.

I agree that OP should forget it.

Yes, forget the misdirected message. However, do send it on to the correct recipient, though there's no need to mention its prior misdirected history.
