Abandon all hope? It has been almost a month since the MLA interview. The SCC made it sound at the interview as if they planned on moving quickly with the search. The school is a SLAC.

Not necessarily. One of my MLA interviewers gave similar statements. However, at least four of us who were interviewed at MLA have conferred on the wiki to confirm that none of us have heard from the school. They must still be working on the administration approvals for their campus invite list. Keep in mind that bringing candidates to campus is expensive and this is why upper administration scrutinizes the decisions closely. Scrutiny takes time.

Hmm.  Thanks. One of the schools that interviewed me is moving very quickly (interviewed at MLA Friday; invited to campus Monday) and the other is just not (or else I just haven't heard). And the wiki has been pretty inactive.

I'm in the same boat and it's been driving me crazy, particularly since the SC directly said that they'd be contacting us all with news one way or the other by a specific date which has already passed.  It's completely taboo for me to contact the SCC and ask what's going on, right?

I'm used to hearing nothing from schools that didn't even give me a first-round interview, but hearing nothing after an MLA interview just feels cruel...

The chair of the search committee I'm on said similar things to our MLA interviewees. However, I know that we can't communicate with them until after a contract is signed due to HR requirements. We are in danger of losing the position if we break these protocols. We do keep the wiki for our job updated though. . .

It is getting pretty late.  Never say never, but you might want to move on and go to plan B or other work.  Hang in there.

Did you check the SLAC schedule, by the way? Someone whose committee I'm on had a MLA interview with a school that has one of those "intersession" terms where some people are with students in other countries, some are on research trips of their own, and a few are on campus teaching something for three weeks. They did at least remember to tell the candidate that they would not be meeting to schedule campus visits until the second week in February.

I'm getting pretty antsy about my interviews too. One campus visit request came just a few days after the MLA, and that's made waiting to hear about the others more difficult since I've seen that quick decisions are possible.
