Hello. I'm pretty new to conducting research and getting published. I've split my dissertation into two publishable articles, the first has already been accepted. My question is, since it was one large study, how much of the literature review can be used (verbatim) in both articles? Obviously only the pieces that relate to both sets of results would be used in both, but I just to stay above reproach.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in an APA field-- and the answer would be none. You can use the same argument but not the same words.

Agreed.  You might try reworking the lit part so that you only mention some in one and some in the other?  Otherwise, you get to use it once and then go on to a new and better version.

As tempting as it is to do this, you want to avoid the desire to cut and paste. There is a growing trend for journals to use anti-plagiarism software, and there are growing numbers of independent people who for some reason are using computing to check for overlaps between articles. (I assume some from grudges, some just doing class assignments or whatever.)

So even if you could do this now and not get caught, you might find it comes and bites you in the ass later. So not really worth the headache.
