I will be traveling in April and I am looking an itinerary with a connection in Toronto of one hour and twenty minutes.  It is from American to British Air in the late afternoon, if that matters.  I have never been to the Toronto airport, is that sufficient time to make a connection (barring weather delays, of course)?

Also I will finish up at 15:00 on a Friday afternoon in Brighton.  Is it possible to make a Ryan air flight to Dublin at 21:45 out of Gatwick?  I can stay with a relative in Dublin so, if possible, I would prefer to avoid a hotel expense in London for Friday night.  Thanks for advice from anyone who has experience with such things.

Brighton to Gatwick is easy (have a look at a map, it's only 30 miles).  Check nationalrail.co.uk for train times -- it's a quick trip (and you don't go into London -- it's a direct connection).

In my opinion it is not nearly enough connection time for Toronto. You will have to collect your bags in Toronto and clear them through customs and then recheck them as far as I know, coming in on an international flight (from the US). It is a very busy airport.

Seconding what Qrypt says about Brighton and Gatwick. There's at least four direct trains an hour from Brighton, and I think there's a couple of stoppers as well. The Gatwick airport station is connected to the South Terminal, so it's only a five minute walk from the platform to the Ryanair check-in.

Mischt's right - even tho' you'll come into Terminal 1 and stay in Terminal 1, Toronto keeps you in the secure area by sending you on a loooonnnnng peregrination up, along, and back down.  Even without checked bags, it's a very long haul - we nearly missed our London-bound flight when our inbound (Canadian domestic) flight was late.  Ask for a longer connection time.

In April YYZ (Toronto) isn't too bad. Clearing customs through the connection line won't take too long. It's the baggage claim that will take forever. I think Toronto has one baggage handler. Who has one arm. And is 9 months pregnant. You can easily wait an hour just to get your bag.  If you're not checking bags, you'll be fine, but with checked luggage, give yourself at least 2 hours.

x2.  Two hours is the minimum time I would be comfortable with.

It's a busy airport, but not endless like O'Hare, or jam-packed like MIA.  There's good signage and it's easy enough to navigate.

Obviously I missed the most important question, "How long is the line at the Tim Horton's in Toronto's airport?"  The layover is definitely too short if there is any kind of line.

Thanks for the advice, I thought this itinerary might be too good to be true.

It's long, eh?  I've never had the patience to stand in it.

It's okay that I find it hilarious that we can all comment on the wait time at a particular Tim's, right?

It's long, but it moves quickly. Same for the one when you first walk into the domestic check-in place. Long line-ups, but moves quickly.

Such is life in Canada, especially since we all have to deal with Pearson Airport!

And you're right - they always have lots of cashiers working.
