One of my students is interested in publishing Zines and she asked me about software options beyond MS Publisher or Word.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Publishing? Or writing on?  Because Word is good for writing, but to publish there are several options, like MagCloud, Issu (I think that's how it's spelled), and Lulu.

A printed zine? When zines were big in the 1990s, the dominant technology was a typewriter, scissors, gluesticks, and a copy machine.

Why not use word? It's quite useful as a DTP package, but it may yield a too "polished" look for a zine. I'm partial to old-school, analog techniques.
