Please help me fix this annoying issue!

Even though I am continually setting folders (in the "Get Info" pane) to allow any user to "read & write" (including myself, the admin, obviously), I still must often "authenticate" an action such as editing an image, deleting, or moving it.  Tonight I noticed that images (merely garden-variety jpgs and pngs) which I captured only two weeks ago via screenshot are now "locked," requiring password entry to move them around.  I work with images a lot and this is becoming a real pain.

I thought if I set the main folder "documents" to allow everyone to "read & write" it would apply this setting to all subfolders, but this seems not to be the case.

Is there anyplace to adjust a global setting that tells the mac to simply stop locking any files? Help!

And thanks.

Do you have Lion?  Apparently this is a "feature" in Time Machine: http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/24/turn-off-file-locking-in-os-x-lion/

Yes, YES! This is it!  Even as the IT folks were telling me that they couldn't figure it out--that they "get back to me"--I knew the fora would come through.

Thank you so much, galactic_hedgehog! I hope I can repay you with some nugget of wisdom one day in the future.

What a release! This has been such a pain for three months!
