This is probably what I'll do. I've been able to meet some people in different fields through the people in my lab due to its interdisciplinary nature.

This isn't what I was implying. I'm talking about their passion for the field, not their ability as a researcher.
Maybe they're just super laid-back? A lotta people have no clue what they wanna do. Academia's no different, it seems.
