So, I've just joined a writing circle with some colleagues at my university. One thing we're going to try to do is keep a writing log. Ideally, we'd like to use some kind of site or software that we can share, so we can see each others' progress.
I guess what I'm thinking of is something like "My Fitness Pal", but for writing productivity.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I could simply create a google.doc spreadsheet, but if there's something ready-made out there that you can point me to, that would be terrific.

I'm currently using toggl.
You create tasks and then it times you as you work on them. It's very easy to set up. (and no, they aren't paying me to say any of this!)

You could just use something like Google Docs and share your documents with other users. But that does require you to have a google account and allow google into every corner of your life.

toggle does have a free version that allows up to 5 users, but yes, if your group is bigger than that or if you want other features, that's a limitation.

If you donate to 750w (I think it's $4?) you can "follow" each other and see your group's stats. (can't see what each other wrote, just the aggregate for each day.) I LOVE 750w. |

I belong to a writing group that uses Backpack. It's a free service. They have a "Writeboard" feature that everyone can contribute to. It's meant for assembling group-written documents, but it also works for this feature. We just "erase" all the past contributions every once in a while. Backpack is at http://backpackit.com. They also have a to-do list feature that I use (not in a group). |

Another one is http://www.iwriteassistant.co.uk/. You can also use it to track submissions. It's for freelancers, but works fine for academics as well. There's also http://writeboard.com/. A wiki might also work well for you and your colleagues. But personally, I just use a spreadsheet. |
