Hi folks,

I was wondering if you guys can help me out in making the right decision for me.

I am a masters student currently in the second semester of my third year. I defended my thesis and was passed with major revisions, however, I am burnt out. I have no juice left in me and there is no motivation to make revisions and the thoughts of leaving grad school has been bombarding my mind nonstop. Even if I make the revisions to my thesis, I still have two publications to write before I can graduate. My thesis has been funded by government agencies that are anxiously waiting for my thesis/publications, but all I want to do is leave. I am very unhappy, stressed beyond belief and have reached my breaking point.

Help?

P.S: My apologies if this is in the wrong category.

Three weeks! Go buy a case of Red Bull and get'r done. Revise the thesis, then strip out section of it and submit these as your publications. If they are not up to snuff that it is not your problem, you submitted them and they can request revisions after you graduate (and you can say no). C'mon, dry your eyes and get to work.

LarryC is right on this.  If all you have to do is power through three horrendous weeks, then do it.

If you need better incentive, then go look up what constitutes publications for the government.  Done is what's important.  This doesn't have to be the best work ever; it just has to be an adequate record of what you did and the results.

Break the revisions into tiny, do-able pieces:

+ re-do stats on pg 1-5.
+Cut the 10 pages they were hard on; reduce main and necessary idea to 1 page.
+Integrate 2 new articles that they mentioned.

If the paper is 50 pages, you only need to fix 3 pages each day.  6 if it's 100.  Keep each assignment small, manageable, and reward like crazy after each accomplishment.  Burnout happens when you think about tackling the whole monster.  But working on just 3 pages every day for a short, short, short three weeks.  You can do that.

This is how I get through stuff, too.  Little bites.
You can do it, OP.

DO IT! You've come too far to drop out! Push your body and mind to the breaking point for three weeks, then go to the Caribbean and drink pina coladas on the beach. It's worth it. Good luck!
