Need some advice, guys.

I had a phone interview with a dream school. It seemed went very well. In the end SC told me they will determine the onsite candidates in 2-3 weeks. Now it is the 5th week I still did get any message. Seems they didn't post the candidate colloquium talks on the websit yet.

Shall I send them an email to inquiry about the process? The good thing is to show them I am still very interested in them after 5 weeks. But would this have any negative effect?

Any suggestion is highly appreciated!!!

Leave the SC alone.

Sit on your hands, and turn your thoughts to other things.   Even better, do some work.

The SC knows you want the job, and will contact you if they wish to extend an offer.  In academia, it is not proper for the applicant to contact the SC after the interview unless the applicant has another offer in hand.

What systeme_d said.  I know it's hard to sit and wait, but sitting and waiting is a lot of what we do in this profession.

You know that new hobby that you wanted to pick up?  Or that article that you wanted to write?  Dissertation to finish?  New recipe to try out?  Today's the day to start!  There's a football game on TV.  SVU Marathon?

Good luck on the market, and good luck with the market stir crazies.  And remember, we're academics. Everything moves at a glacial pace, so it could be that you're not in the running anymore or it could be that the Dean who needs to sign off on the SC's week-late recommendations is at a conference.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I know rationally that is what I suppose to do: leave them alone. But this one is so particular. The requirements in their ad were written as if it was just for me.....

This just like you know the lady you love is still not married (and you know she loves you, at least in some parts). It is really hard to leave her alone!

Thanks, glowdart. I hope the last scenario you mentioned is actually the case...

I had a phone interview on December 2nd and haven't heard from the SC. It's not my dream job per se, but I am ABD and will take any job that I am offered (if any) this year.

I am *dying* to follow up with the SC but know it's a bad idea. The thing is that my labmates keep encouraging me to follow up with the SC. Their rationale is usually something like "you want to let them know you're still interested." Um...I applied for the position and accepted their interview invitation. Of course I am still interested! So on my hands I sit...

I know it's hard, but Search Committees actually assume that you'll contact them if you're NOT still interested.  Meaning, if you have another offer.

Otherwise, we assume that everyone who interviewed is still interested in the job.

I had an interview in early December and just got the campus invite this week.  It was nearly 7 weeks later so don't despair.  Try to stay calm and know that they work on their own schedule.  It sucks, but in the end they will contact you if they need to.

Thank you.  I mean, nothing butchers my productivity like Stabler and Benson, but I love SVU marathons.

Thank you very much for the responses, guys. I think I will follow the advice and leave them alone. The most important thing is get my presentation done as soon as possible as my 1st onsite is coming soon.

On the separate note, just for my curiosity on this process : if the SC ranked each  candidates after the phone interview, say candidate A got 75/100 and ranked 5th. Would A's "score" and rank get lowered if A send a " inquiry email"? Unlikely, right?

I'm on the applicant side, but my impressions is that no one is giving me a numerical score and ranking me that way. Sure they may rank me 5th, but probably based on a more holistic evaluation, not some rubric. And how do you know you have already been ranked before sending that inquiry e-mail?
