They should have just deep fried those that came first. Would you salt a deep-fried Spaniard, or use cinnamon-sugar?

Mitosis produces gametes; meiosis produces zygotes.
This was not from a freshman - maybe this should be on the Teaching Despair thread?
Dr. Pollinate, how can you expect us to remember the difference? Both words start with "m", end in "-osis" and they aren't even English words. Can't we just call them something we can remember like George and Bob?

Can't we just call them something we can remember like George and Bob? Huh - I wonder if that would work? Unfortunately, it probably wouldn't for the student who told me that "meiosis produces diploid cells" or for the one who said that it "is not a sexual life cycle; it's asexual . . . gametes are involved in mitosis, which is sexual". < bang! Bang! BANG!> You know, I'll feel much so better once I stop banging my head, record the grades and (hopefully) never have to look at those papers again!

The gravity of finding a 100% sensitivity and specificity test is in high demand.

That's good to know, Sinenomine. I'm taking notes so I can make sure everyone in my family is informed, too. :-)

I don't think I want my family to know. When the rules change, things become more difficult for the rule maker.

Well, yes. You have to decide whether you want to eat flesh and be part of an apocalypse or just drink blood, wear a lot of hair gel, and stalk depressed teenaged girls. It's a whole lot easier to just stay alive and pick a major.

Well, as long as we're on the topic of things beyond our mortal lives,
"Once I have a house and a god job I can then have a family and be happy for the rest of my life."
Yes, I think I could be pretty happy as a god too.
Then there's this one:
"All students take classes that they would rather shoot themselves in the foot over."
