I will be spending a month working at a university in Paris this spring. My host institution has accommodations, but they are primarily for single academics, and I'll be with a partner and child. So I am currently looking for an apartment. Thus far I have used sabbaticalhomes [dot] com, but have been encountering a number of what seem like bait and switches (e.g., we don't have that apartment but we do have this slightly more expensive one), and mostly not getting replies.
I would be very grateful for any tips about locating reliable rentals in Paris. Thank you!

Have you tried the Cite Universitaire website - the accommodation there might not be suitable for a family but there is a team based there supposed to help and advise visiting researchers, who perhaps could tell you who the more reliable agencies are. Otherwise as it's only a month you might be better going through a vacation rentals firm.

I hope you have a wonderful time in Paris. I used to live there and miss it very much. I found a place to live via craig's list. They have many different types of accommodation.
Also, I recommend getting a bicycle to ride around the city.
Bon courage!

The best source by fair is the H-France housing digest, where you can both find ads and place your own. Google H-France to sign up and see the last few.
Don't buy a bicycle - get a Velib card and use the ones the city provides.

For just a month, I wonder if a residential-type hotel might work. Usually a room or two, with a hot plate or such for cooking, but perhaps not a full kitchen. If not, I agree that a vacation rental firm would be best.

I bet vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner) might turn up something useful. We found a very nice studio apartment in Paris for about $800 in high season--if you'll be there during the grim, gray, damp Parisian spring, you could likely negotiate an even better monthly rate.

IŽd try H-France housing digest before anything. You can post a request on there too. Vacation rentals in France are about 50 times beyond my budget but I have found a decent place or two when it was person to person rather than through a service.
H-France and International Medieval Society have guides for how to quickly get settled for research in Paris. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone! Great suggestions. I'm still looking. But I feel better about the likelihood of getting something with these new search outlets. H-France looks very promising, and reliable. Another site I've found, which isn't on this thread so far is, www.airbnb.com, which seems all right.

I would revisit the host institution first, they often know best and may have something larger, for one month you can squeeze, most people I know have been unhappy with apts. they find on their own from a distance. Maybe someone from the host institution can go look at it before you sign or at least remark on the area.
