Sounds like it was a good appearance with no gaffes.  What's the problem?

Your professors were probably afraid of your galactic genius and did everything they could (behind the scenes) to thwart your hedginess.

I don't have too much of a problem with it. I like that he said rising tuition rates can't be sustained. But if he says investing so much in professorial salaries ought to be questioned, then why not question other salaries?

From the information given here it was a successful outing. He gave the usual feeling-good-about-ourselves-and- our-limitless-potential remarks and the problems that he mentioned are already well known, so it was a chance to show empathy, and it came from one the least wealthy members of Congress and the party of government activism. Well done.

Why is this on the Chronicle articles thread?

And where is James Franco?

We need a section for non-Chronicle articles.  People tend to just post all articles in the Chronicle articles section.

My thought exactly. I saw the J in the thread title and got excited.

I thought they usually go where people think they'e most appropriate, with Meet and Greet being the default.

Perhaps we need a special James Franco section?

Yes, Biden talks too much for his own good or that of the White House.  However, for my fun, I want the White House to stop gagging him and let Biden blather again.

A favorite moment of so many came on the Iowa caucus trail in 2008, when Biden greeted an audience of caucus-goers with the standard "Hello, Iowa!" -- and then turned to the Obama group and greeted them with 'Hello, Chicago!"

Another Biden appearance http://www.rgj.com/article/20120119/NEWS/120119052/Vice-President-Joe-Biden-urges-Reno-students-pursue-higher-education

I'm wondering what things will look like when people can't afford college anymore, with or without grants and low interest loans, even colleges that their taxes fund. Right now some places the administrators seem to be having a grand old time deciding that their pay must continue to increase in order to attract the right people. Can nothing stop this?
The thought process also seems to be that a college needs to acquire more buildings in order to compete. But if everyone stops building? Maybe famine can be a good thing.

Here the author finishes by saying he agrees with Biden, for a change. I would imagine Biden can complain about professors' salaries all he wants and only end up with a net political gain. Who's going to shoot down that argument?

No, he's dead.

Biden is a tool. I may not vote for Obama because he's got such a loser for a VP. How much is that do-nothing worth a year?
