Hi, everyone.

This is my first post. However, I lurk frequently and this board has been immensely helpful. I'm thinking of applying to a position in a College of Ed. I am currently in a Mid-tier Psychology Dept and the position is in a College of Ed at a high-tier R1 (public ivy). I'm trying to keep as secretive as possible until I decide about applying. So, I don't want to ask close colleagues as they have ties to the University I'm applying to. Has anyone gone from a Psychology Department to a School/College of Education? If so, what are things that I should be thinking about?  Early on, I  mentioned this position to a more senior colleague. However, this individual believes this is the "kiss of death" for a Psychologist. I'm not so sure that applies (or if it ever did). My work is applied and it would be a fit (maybe more than my current Dept). Plus, the University has more resources than my current institution, which is advantageous to my research.

Any thoughts for an Assistant Professor in their 4th year who is not 100% happy at their current institution (e.g., politics (more than the usual))? What are the pros/cons?

Thanks!

My assumption is that you are in a field amenable to education, and do work helpful in educational psychology, such as measurement/testing, evaluation, or whatever those people do.  I've seen people in "traditional" disciplines work in Colleges of Education.  Who cares what others think - the best you can do is apply and make yourself as marketable for the position as you can.
