Greetings.

A few months ago, I applied to a grad program for Spring. It has "rolling admissions." I had spoken at length with the DGS, and she said that it usually only takes a few weeks for them to decide. The DGS bent over backwards to answer my questions about the program, said I would be a good fit, and even offered herself as a possible advisor. In short, things looked promising. (As you may be able to glean, this is not a highly competitive program, although it is good and it meets my needs for my career goals.)

My application was officially complete and received in late November. Recognizing the tight time schedule, I emailed the DGS in mid-December asking for an update and acknowledging that perhaps I should push back my application for Summer or Fall admission. The DGS emailed back essentially stating that Spring might work OK and that she would get back to me.

I haven't heard a peep since then, and classes started today. My online application status still says "pending dept. review."

Will I be a pest if I email the DGS again? If I do email, what should I say?

Pick up the phone.

Keep in mind that in many grad programs you can take a course or three as a "non-marticulating" student, then have those courses count towards your degree once you are admitted. So the delay might be no big deal at all.

Call the DGS and ask.

It may be too late to start this semester, though.

Thanks, all.

It looks like the DGS must have read my post, because she emailed not one hour after I posted here. We've scheduled a meeting.
