OK, who's gearing up for season 2?
I really enjoyed season 1, particularly the visuals (e.g., costumes, scenery, etc.). The plots tended toward soap operas, but a little brain candy is good for one now and then. Still, I'm having a little trouble understanding all the media buzz for season 2.

We are stoked at our house! It's funny: Kid #2, the bookworm, loves the series for what it is--good, comfy mind candy with pretty pictures and costumes. Kid #1, who has the attention span of a gnat, watched the rerun of Season 1 with me, and though I spent a good deal of it restating plot/relationships for her, she actually liked it, too.
How long will this season be, do we know? Six episodes is NOT enough....
ETA: I hope Thomas gets his, and soon! Hiss!

We loved season 1, and I am definitely looking forward to season 2. Does it start soon? My mother is still trying to watch all of the first season so that she is up to date. Husband enjoyed the first season, but that was partly because we thought it was only that season of seven (?) episodes. I love Mr. Bates.

Apparently it starts this Sunday (Jan. 8). I am still trying to figure out how those without TV (but with computer) can get a hold of it.

I watched Season 1 last week, went completely insane over it, immediately got Season 2 (it's already aired in the UK) and watched all of it and the Christmas Special in two days. It is like television crack, and the dresses are to die for. *sigh* If you use torrents (I am not recommending you do; they are illegal, after all) you can get the entire thing that way now.

Me, too. If you "like" the PBS Downton Abbey facebook page, they generally post an announcement for when and where you can watch an episode online. Apparently it starts this Sunday (Jan. 8). I am still trying to figure out how those without TV (but with computer) can get a hold of it.

I would probably chaffe at wearing them, and would do something ghastly like wearing pants (Go Sybil!).

Season 2 is eight episodes plus the Christmas Special (which was, I think, just under two hours long). The Christmas Special isn't really a "special" in the usual sense, as really key plot points are developed in important ways. It was more like a season finale. And I love Sybil's pants. I love Sybil in general. My husband has a huge crush on her, with her husky voice and harem pants.

You can watch season 1 as streaming video on Netflix. Watched the whole season last night and today. Good, god, what a delicious show. Sybil's costumes, especially her little pant suit thingy, are fabulous to behold.

OK, who's gearing up for season 2?
Me! Me! Darn if I wasn't listening to the theme in the car this afternoon. Since 'Boardwalk Empire' is off for the season, I guess I can bite the bullet and watch public TV once a week (I watched the 1st season on Netflix). I'll have to set a reminder or something. It's worth watching just for the women's clothes.

I'm not up to a Netlixs' subscription price. Maybe I can get my friends addicted to it. Mostly we watch Mystery Theatre when we get back from choir practice on Thursdays, which I also like. In the past few months they indulged me by letting me watch the Amazing Race, even though they'd never seen it. I almost cried at that. My husband and I loved that show. We considered applying, but he died first. Our niece and nephew did apply, but they weren't chosen.
Amazing Race is one of the few reality shows that I miss. Survivor and most of the others are contrived--a reasonably decent study of coalition building in a vacuum. If nothing else, AR offers a perspective on other cultures that I love.
My friends, not having watched before, kind of got into it. Downtn Abbey is even more up their alley, but I don't think they're aware of it. I'll try to change that if I can.
