What qualifications aside from what is posted on-line who are seeking college/university positions in athletics/recreation?  What are some recommendations you may have? What is the ratio of applicants to positions within colleges/universities for these positions?

Don't mind me.  Someone will be along shortly who can answer your questions.

Nat, This is a pretty vague question. Are you talking coach or Director of Athletics, Director of the fitness center or club sport?  Lacrosse, football, or polo?  Big school? small school?  CC?  Each answer would obviously be quite different.  You might be better off talking to folks in the department in which you're interested.  If you don't know what you're interested in, start with "research interviews" (information-gathering talks with people already in the field) to find out how they got the position.  If you talk to them without any expectations for a job, you cam usually glean a lot of info.  Good luck!

(New Years resolution for me: less snark.)

Well, off the top of my head I'd say that not committing sex acts with children on University property would probably give a candidate an edge...
