Zarathustra -- I think you can get your 5K down to 30 minutes without any problems. Sounds like you're making really quick improvements. Keep it up!

:D  Thanks!

Its all on you. And very inspiring!

Resolution update: Entering week four of waking up before 8am. I've done this every day this month. I love it! I get a lot more done, feel less stressed, and other things seem to fall into place when I do it. I also love morning quiet -- its fantastic. I'm still making this resolution my focus since its the most important one.

Everyone else: how is week four beginning for you?

I adore waking up early. I haven't even finished my coffee, and have already responded to all my weekend work emails and done some work on resource materials prep for my students, which means that my late afternoon will be entirely open. Whee!

My one resolution isn't going so well: I haven't made anybody cry since the first, maybe second, week of January. Cutting myself some slack, though - I haven't had time lately to do anything tremendously kind or heart-wrenching. But my work-load should slack up a bit soon, and I'll get back on my game.

Good going everyone! Crumpet and grasshopper, I know just what you mean about the loveliness of rising early. After a lifetime of rolling out of bed at the last minute and rushing around in the mornings, last year I too started getting up far earlier than usual, well before I had to be anywhere. Now every morning I relax with my toast and tea, surf the internet, and sometimes even straighten up the apartment a bit before I leave for work or the gym. Mornings are my respite, truly. It becomes a positive feedback, because the earlier I rise, the earlier I fall asleep. Doesn't make for a great nightlife, but those days (for me) are over.

My resolution of self-care and letting go of toxic people is going well. The hardest parts of self-care for me are eating too much sugar, and feeling responsible for everyone (this, of course, is related to the toxic people resolution). As for sugar, I'm keeping good control of it, and I feel much better emotionally and physically. I'm doing better not taking responsibility for everyone's feelings and behavior, so I my emotional energy feels more balanced. The toxic people purge has been great! I ran into former toxic friend/yoga instructor at the movie theater Saturday, but we were going to different movies, so we could just say hello and move on.

Let's keep it going!

Thanks for the early morning validation! I've always liked mornings in theory but haven't developed a sustainable approach until now. Its really a wonderful change.

Great update on your resolutions! Letting go of toxic people is a wonderfully freeing thing. Its curiously hard to think about doing, but once done is amazing. Its something I should work on (at a later date) as well.

Good work on the sugar too!

That's cool about your new morning ritual.

I bought a notebook to log my half-marathon training.

Better late than never...

Normally I don't do a New Year's resolution just for the sake of it. However, I bumped into an article about keeping your bathroom clean in just 5 minutes a day, every day. So I thought, hey, I could try that.

I've been on it for three days and I think it's going to work! It's only a quickie-clean, but it keeps dirt, mess, and clutter from building up. Now I'll be able to enjoy having a decent bathroom every day, instead of just once in a while when I get around to cleaning it in a big way.

My fiancée has slowly been getting me to that point regarding the kitchen and bathroom.  Also laundry.  Also... Well, let's just say my resolution to keep life going good between us is going smoothly.

This year I WILL lose weight.  I plan to WILL walk, eat better, and do my physical therapy back exercises at least 3 times a week.

I will lose at least 30 pounds this year (though I probably need to lose more).

I am here to announce that I am a failure.  my weight is At Best, stable, and that may be wishful thinking.  My exercise program is non-existent.

The only good 'hope' for the future is that I will be done with classes in a few weeks, and especially this online class that eats up enormous amounts of time.

So with the new season comes new hope for better/additional excuses.

How is everyone else doing?  Any glowing Successes to report?

My resolution was to not make any commitments that I could not keep.  I am here to report 100% success which has been achieved by not making any commitments, period!

Clean, your approach to $ shows you have the requisite willpower.  Tongue half in cheek here, but what if you think of your excess weight as debt?  We know there's no way on this earth you'd spend a cent that wasn't in an envelope.  Think of your daily calories as a currency that you spend.  What would Dave Ramsay say?

I have had a recent checkup and as a result the doctor has added a prescription to help adjust my blood chemistry, and hopefully better control how my body handles sugar and fat/bulk tonnage.

My newest excuse anyway is that the term will end in the next 2 weeks and I should be able to resume a normal schedule soon (rather than being in my office 10  hours or more a day til 10-11pm and sleeping til 10 then next morning when it is too hot already to be doing too much outside.)  The "benefit" of teaching MBA classes is that you get to teach them on the 3rd shift!  No day/afternoon classes for me!

I will start to budget, but it will be more time than calories.  IF they have a weight watchers at work group over the summer I will join.  I think that the time issue, getting into a good schedule of what to do and when to do it would be the key.  IF I am on a schedule that included walking, physical therapy exercises (for my back) and cooking (rather than eating out), then I think that I would be in better shape.  As it is, my screwey schedule prevents me from cooking and having healthier food at home.

I will endeavor to make this a priority .... just not today... After exams!

Thanks for the good thoughts.  The year is not lost yet, so I can still recover.  I had hoped that I would be further along.

① Try to read less for pleasure, and spend less time on video games.  Replace this with time spent doing things that will have more productive outcomes; writing, grading, teaching, etc.

② Try not to sleep with any forumites, or anybody else except my fiancée.  Should be easy enough.

③ Continue to work on making life with my fiancée better.

So far, so good.  Still haven't read much for pleasure this year, and I have been grading more assiduously.  No sleeping with anybody but my fiancée, less video gaming, and I'm preparing a new course.

Massive success on all fronts; I am about to kick ① to the curb, but it's the end of the semester, so I'm entitled.  Also, I have money for an Amazon binge (well, a smallish one).  This will include a cheap video game and a pile o'books (to be read for pleasure).

Update:

I fixed my food budget

I'm running my first 10k Memorial Day, and completing a triathlon in August, so I can probably start Bikram Yoga again. Somehow I've managed to drop a good bit of weight too.

My chair has one more week to object to the Chapter 4 plan, then I can start writing.

This may be the first time I've ever kept a resolution.
