Sounds like someone is hitting the crazy juice over at NYU:

"I was fired for giving James Franco a D."

Discuss.

I love the phrase "Franco-friendly environment." We should grade restaurants that way.

Franco is A-OK in my book. He managed to save General Hospital--at least for another year, but getting a prof fired for a bad grade is a bit over the top.

I thought the school's suggestion that the prof just wanted publicity seemed a bit fishy or incomplete--publicity for what, to do what?  I can't wait to see how the story unfolds.

HG, who thinks Franco is dreamy, even if a bit too precious sometimes

The prof. lost me when he suggested that the grade reflected lecture attendance.  I don't really respect that assessment model.

I, too, am interested in how this pans out.  Does anyone know how this guy got "fired"?  If we're tenure-track, a better option is to not get "tenure" or not get "reappointed".  If this guy is an adjunct, he was simply not "hired" again, rather than "fired".  Was he "fired"?   I know it can happen, but I've never even been at an institution that had to "fire" a professor.

I'd like to add that I am willing to participate in a Franco friendly environment.  I don't teach screen studies, but I'm willing to give James Franco private lessons for any classes he happens to miss.

If he needs tutoring, or any other type of extra help, feel free to send him my way!

Where did "James Franco Has Prof Fired" come from or did you not even bother to read the articles on this?

The professor is not claiming that Franco got him fired, but that NYU let him go for giving Franco a D. Neither NYU or Santana claim that Franco protested the D. NYU says the loss of the position had nothing to do with the grade. In any case, publicizing a student's grade and attendance record is unprofessional to say the least. We cannot know the whole story, but I seriously doubt that NYU fired him for a single grade to a celebrity or that this is the first celebrity to go to NYU.

Other than forumites, nobody is claiming that a student got a prof fired. This story is weird enough without making it weirder.

He is my celebrity husband #4. Please do tutor him, and explain to him the purpose and benefits of attending class. We differ on this subject.

Oh lighten up, for Pete's sake.  The thread title is tongue-in-cheek, as indeed is everything to do with James Franco's academic career.

Perhaps we can all tutor him on a rotating basis?

Not to mention that the thread title is the spin much of the media is taking in reporting the story, including the one to which canuckois linked.

I read a few news articles that used the word "fired" - not the one in the OP.  As for me, I'm mainly interested in clicking on links that lead to pictures of James Franco.  I was disappointed that one of the stories I read had a picture of the fired professor.

I do not think it is appropriate to make fun of a student by name on the forum.  Just because he is famous is not an excuse to make fun of his educational goals or grades. You should not do this to any of your students, whether they are famous or not. I do not know anything about his academics, but he is still a student. Of all the Hollywood hobbies, education seems a worthy one. Now the funny stories where students cannot be identified are a different matter.

Actually, "fired" is in the headline.

Would you like to join the CHE James Franco Appreciation/Tutoring Society, macaroon?

aprilmay, I think you might benefit from a drink or a nap.
