Today, I received notification that an abstract I submitted (based on Master's thesis research) was accepted, as a paper presentation, to a major conference in my field. One of the PhD programs I applied to specifically asked about publications and conference presentations in their departmental application.  In my CV, I listed the submitted abstract (on the advice of my advisor) but did not include it in the publications/presentations section of the departmental form.  The application deadline to this program was less than a week ago.  Would it be appropriate to email the DGS at this school to notify them of this new development?

+1  We're interested in knowing that applicants understand they'll need to publish while in grad school, and that they can complete and submit a proposal. Unless this is a really really big-deal conference in your field, we don't really care a lot about whether or not someone has accepted it at this point. (Some conferences in my field are so thin that anything written in complete sentences with most of the words spelled correctly will be accepted -- but still, the ability and self-confidence to complete and submit a proposal is what matters.)
