I'm currently thinking about going to graduate school for International Relations and I was wondering if there are many jobs for US PhD's internationally. I don't really want to work in the US after finishing, I'd be more interested in teaching abroad if that was possible. I was wondering do people ever make a career out of teaching at the collegiate level internationally? Thanks for any advice.

What seems "hot" right now are new American and Western (style and affiliates) universities in the Middle East, particularly in the Persian Gulf.  That said "hot" is relative as teaching positions are pretty rare worldwide, so if it's a job you want, focus on a career minded degree, international business is way more likely to get you a job overseas than a teaching focused degree.

A little late, but I'll chime in: as someone once said, it's always better to get your degree where you want to be working, so my first advice would be - why not look into doing your degree abroad?
Otherwise, I'd be sure to try to get to as many conferences in the area of the world you'd might like to end up in while you're a student.

Wrong question.   A PhD in "international relations" won't necessarily prepare you to work internationally or make you any more desirable internationally.  As matter of fact, the USA is the best place to look for a job of you have a PhD in "international relations".

Academic jobs internationally are discipline-driven and demand-driven just as they are in the USA.   Take a look at the "international" jobs advertised right here on CHE, and you will get an idea of what the foreigners want.     Do you want to study "international relations" because you love it or because you think it will help you work internationally?    If the former and you want to work internationally, then you want to get a PHD in a top-notch program in the USA and one where you can start appropriate networking while you study.
