Hi everyone,

I have my very first Skype interview with UNC Asheville coming up next week. Does anyone know anything about the Department of Education there? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure how helpful this is, but I'm an UNCA grad! It's a gem of a school.

I didn't go through the Education dept but several friends did. I can't think of any concerns, but it was a number of years ago.

My opinion isn't exactly objective, but I'm a fan. And Asheville is a great place to live. I wish I'd spent more time enjoying the city while I was there.

Best of luck!

There are several threads in which Asheville is mentioned.

Given the economy and the condition of higher ed in the USA, I say that your focus should be: this is a job; better to have one than not.

I think some of the forum threads about Asheville can be a bit negative, but it is a pretty great southern town.  If you go for an in-person interview, there are many great restaurants and brewpubs/brewery tours.  :)

Many of the public university Education schools in NC are quite fabulous.  UNC-A is one of the best in NC, for what that's worth to you.

Thanks so much for your responses! I had my Skype interview on Monday. We were cut off three times due to technological difficulties. I hope to hear from them regarding a campus invite, but I doubt it. It was my first academic interview and I rambled a bit on a couple of questions.

Given that anyone on the search committee will be able to identify you from this, you better be excited.  It would be wise to be less identifiable.

Congratulations on the invite! If you want to ask any specific questions about preparing for it, though, you will want to create a new account with a new moniker so you can be completely anonymous. Don't mention the actual institution if you come back!
