I am new to this board and interested in teaching in the UK. I am currently a Phd candidate in the US. My question is whether the UK applicant selection process is based on school rank and/or publications. Do you have to publish in top ranked journals? I will appreciate your responses

I think the criteria are very similar to those used in the US. How important it is that a new PhD will have publications varies by discipline but it gives everyone an edge. Though maybe with the REF in the UK already coming in with publications is required? They are going to care a bit less about what school you are graduating from probably though having a well known advisor will help. I did a post-doc in the UK (and a masters) but now I am in Australia so best that people currently in the UK respond.
