I've read some on the topic and understand that there is a marked difference between an online and a brick and mortar PhD.

I was wondering if I might get some feedback on the utility of the degree found here:

http://biz.hamptonu.edu/programs/

I'm particularly concerned about reputation of the school, the fact that it is hybrid, etc. From what I understand so far tier 1 schools are out. Would lower level, smaller schools have an issue with this degree? For what it is worth I will have an MBA and Master of Science in Finance (both AACSB) before starting this program.

Thanks for any feedback and opinions.

I'd call this a low residency program -- since you meet during the summer and then online during the year.  Programs like this are -- IMHO -- for the 35 or 40+ or year old business prof who just has an MBA and wants/needs to get a PhD to continue in the profession or get a promotion.  Or for a mid career person looking to change careers, has done some adjunct teaching, wants to move into higher ed.

My take:  if you are 35 or younger, just bite the bullet and to to an AACSB program in accounting.  You'll get a job making 100K.   You won't come close to that amount with a no-name PhD in business from a non-AACSB school.

It looks like a waste of time.  A lot of schools will have an issue with this degree.
