In the same vein as the other Huffpost list of disciplines with poor job opportunities (in which mine was listed) here is a l ist of schools with the worst professors (in which my alma mater is listed). Hmmm. Would anyone like to retort with, "them be fightin' words" or do you find this reasonable. I certainly agree that my school should make the list though there were some real gems on campus. They were good professors because they were beautiful souls though.

I've never attended any of these schools, but I've been to conferences on some of the campuses. They're mostly easy to get around. Does that facilitate student escapes?
It's a very odd list. I must study it further.
I love lists like this, and everyone should post such.

That Huffington Post interface is terrible, and the link to the Princeton Review article does not work. What were their criteria?

I'm amused that two New Jersey schools were on this list. I've lived in Jersey repeatedly (I think I've done 4 tours of duty there), and I think complaining is the state pastime. Boy, do people like to complain in New Jersey! It's part of the culture.
I wonder why Merchant Marine is on there? Fewest with terminal degrees, perhaps? Most part time instructors? That would make a lot of sense, I'm afraid, and not in a bad way.

Ha! UIUC and UConn are there. I did my PhD at UIUC, and worked as a TA for most semesters, while I did a postdoc at UConn, and was an instructor there for a semester. I'm glad to know that I did my best to help them get on this prestigious list. I wonder if there is any connection between placement on the list and the fact that the most entitled students I ever met were at UConn, with UIUC ranking a close second.

It's because every other state makes fun of us. At least this study didn't use RMP to obtain data (I'm looking at you, Forbes). TZ, Garden State-born and fled

We had a job candidate from one of these in a recent search. They were not ultimately hired.

I had job interviews at two of them: NJIT and Illinois. I'm glad I didn't get the job at either.

I now feel inspired to start my own list of "Lists Offering Purportedly Statistical Information About Higher Education That Is Utterly Worthless."
This list will be at the top of my list.
Spot #2 will go to Mark Bauerlein's quote-unquote analysis of why the research of English professors has no value.

What were their criteria? I was wondering that as well. For what it's worth, I worked for a time at NJIT and it was a running joke (among faculty) that once you get tenure, you become a member of the "walking dead."

I've taught at one, and know two others extremely well. Those three have excellent faculty, who teach at least as well as those at the super-ritzy elite college where I was an undergraduate. - DvF

The Princeton Review publication upon which this is based is the Best 376 Colleges. So the listing is really the schools with the least compelling profs (call it) among the best 376 colleges. Not the worst among the 4000 whatnot colleges in the US.

I'm certain this is the case, but I also know that my professional acquaintances at UIUC and the U of O--who are widely known to be outstanding teachers--teach mostly grad courses, with the occasional senior seminar. I suspect that a part of the issue for many of these places is that undergrads in many programs are taught in large sections by grad students and adjuncts who may or may not be particularly effective.
