Is Berlusconi Done?

He says he will resign and won't run again
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/berlusconi-vows-not-to-run-for-office-again-backs-ally-for-pm/2011/11/09/gIQAjD7f4M_story.html?hpid=z2
but his position that he won't resign until after austerity measures are passed, after he previously threatened to make such passage a vote of confidence measure, makes me think he will find ways to hang on.
Greece is now afraid their bailout will fall through because Italy's would be a much bigger deal and suck up all available EU help.

But retired 70+ media tycoons might not be as sexy to women in their teens and 20s as a prime minister.
I don't think it's much of a comparison, myself, and perhaps the money will still do the trick.

He's offering to resign because the Italian economy is suffering badly. He's more like a rat escaping a sinking ship than its honorable captain.
IMHO, his words don't mean a thing. If it is in his best political or financial interests to return, he'll be running for office again in no time. This is not a man known for is high ethical standards.

NPR aired a vivid retrospective piece on Berlusconi (by Sylvia Poggioli).
