Hi All
Houston seems to be pretty similar to Atlanta, GA in that many hotels are downtown, but the downtown area kinds of dies in the evening.  Any ideas for hotels that are close enough to get to the convention center by foot?  Also, any suggestions for venues for an event for about 200 people??

The Hilton Hotel Americas is the closet hotel to the convention center (definitely within walking distance), and it's very nice.

There's still quite a bit of evening activity (clubs and restaurants) near the Market Square area of downtown Houston, although it has suffered somewhat from the economic downturn. Market Square is not within walking distance of the convention area (or at the very least, the area between is not one you'd want to walk though), but there are various shuttle-type services.

I think you can also stay at hotels that are convenient to the light rail. When I was in Houston, I stayed at this truly funky "art hotel", the Hotel Zaza. It was seriously cool and right on the light rail line. I have no idea what the rates are, though.
