Hi Everyone. I am moving to the UK for about a year. I have an offer to do a small internship that is unpaid, but the Researcher will reimburse me for some expenses. I will have graduated in December. I see the Academic Visa, however I am unsure if I will get it because I am a recent graduate. However  I will be doing research for free and exchanging techniques. Does anyone know if I am rejected as an academic visitor if I can still go as a general visitor for 6 months? Also if I do that, could I go home for a month and then return again?

Thanks!

We have a previous thread about the academic visitor visa: http://chronicle.com/forums/index.php/topic,67652.0.html

If you're turned down for the academic visitor visa, you can still apply for a general visa to come to the UK, but your stay is limited to only six months in any one year period. Trying the "go home for a month and then come back" routine will not be looked on kindly by the UKBA, and a refused entry stamp in your passport will severely limit further travel to this side of the pond.
