Oh my gosh. One of the drugs in my drug cocktail is adderall because not only am I bipolar, but I'm ADD. Anyway, I can't get any adderall anywhere. All the pharmacies are telling me the same thing--they'll have some in January. January?

So I thought--I don't need no stinking adderall. Yesterday in class--without drugs, I felt like I was on drugs--like my brain was fuzzy and loose--I thought my students thought for sure I was on drugs--when the problem was I wasn't on drugs.

I can't get to my p-doc until next week...this is terrible...

Is there a suitable replacement your doc can call in for you to use until the Adderall is available again? Something like this happened to me once--a drug I really relied on was discontinued, and I had to do a lot of research to find a replacement. It's bad news when you can't get what you need.

I wonder if any is available in Canada?

No, these drugs are ubercontrolled. You can only get them with a script for one month. No calling in. I have six adderalls left--I'm hoarding them. And the thing is-they're generic--I think maybe they will stop making them since they are so regulated due to abuses. Because of my own schedule (next week is mad busy), I can't get in to see my p-doc until Thursday a.m.

Pry, apparently this has something to do with the production of the extended-release formulation--is that what you take? If so, the FDA drug shortage page says you can call the manufacturer for information in locating product. Here's the info:

Quote
Product availability has improved for all dosage strengths. Shire Customer Service Number: 1-800-828-2088 Shire Pharmacy Locator Number: 1-800-828-2088 select “Option 5” for assistance in locating a pharmacy in your area with product availability.

It is a nation-wide shortage.  I called pharmacies as far as 100 miles away from where I live and it doesn't exist.

I got switched to Ritalin and I hate hate hate it.  I feel dumber than a sack of hammers.

The other day, I went into the store for 10 items, that I had written down.  I forgot eggs.  So I went back to get them.  And I got milk, but not eggs.

My doctor has floated the idea of Vivance (not available in a generic so $$$) and/or Dexidrine.

I'm not on the time released adderall--just the regular. I heard the Vivance is very good. I'm going to ask for it. I don't want to go back to Ritalin.

I actually *feel* just fine without the adderall--maybe I even feel better--but I, too, feel dumb as a sack of hammers. It's like my brain is fuzzy and is rattling around.

I was just on the regular too.  The XR doesn't work for me (weird side effects, not effective) so that's out.

I'm trying to adjust to the Ritalin.  I have a sneaking suspicion that I will need more of it.  I was on 20 mg 2X/day with the Adderall and that same dose of Ritalin just isn't cutting it.  I don't really want to start double loading though.  It has been a week.  I'm going to give it another week and see how it works.

My pharmacist was telling me about the shortage last time I was in there.  We're not out (university pharmacy; I'm guessing that's the FIRST place that gets dibs!) but she did say it might be problematic.  I *will not* run out, or I'll never finish my damn diss.

Pry, come on down here and fill it.  Make it a road trip.

PS, I was on Dexedrine before, and that was a fine one; I actually preferred it to the Adderall (mine's not XR either.)

I HATE double loading. I start chewing the inside of my cheeks.

I am making do with abilify, wellbutrin and ativan--the other ingredients of my cocktail. I don't feel bad, but I don't feel particularly focused either. I have 6 pills left. I am saving them for an emergency.

I had such a rough week with Hedgepig and his injury and his attitude and his stupidity, I took one of the adderalls this morning so I could focus on catching up with my own life.

Hey Pry,

Tom Ashbrook did a program on this problem a few weeks ago, here's the link to download the mp3 if you like:

http://onpoint.wbur.org/2011/10/04/prescription-drugs

I haven't listened to it yet, but when I do, if there are some good leads or advice, I'll check back in with the details.

Hope you're doing ok!

A google search of "Adderall shortage" shows the nationwide freakout.

According to a relative, who has a child with a very serious illness, there are quite a few drug shortages going on right now.  The other parents she knows are panicking.

I know Ritalin is backlogged. I hope the new drugs aren't.
