My interview is scheduled in an afternoon. In the morning, I have some meetings with individual staff members and lunch with some of them too. Should I wear suits at the beginning or something suitable for both occasions? Thanks.

Wear the suit all day. There's no guarantee that your hotel will be close enough to the university to go back and change after lunch.

I think they'd find it odd if you changed part way.

Remember to layer, though, it's very chilly in much of the UK at the moment, but indoors (if you're lucky) will be nicely heated.

Don't change your clothes. That would be really weird. You'll probably be in a 'holding room' with the other candidates. It's ok to actually chat with them. Don't just sit there and look uncomfortable. Bring some papers if you wish and look busy... or bring a book and read.

More than OK, though you don't need to tell them your entire medical history. You'll probably have admin or panel people ushering you in and out, and it would look odd if you were all staring at the walls ignoring each other.

You may be given a space to leave your bag and/or a colleague in your subfield to chat to, in the gaps when you are not talking/being interviewed, it's not as full-on as I understand US-style individual interviews are, but it's worth being pleasant and interesting with them (doh).

Where is a business/professional suit (either male or female) not appropriate for lunch? Inquiring minds want to know.

Same clothes all day (unless you are rash enough to risk the spaghetti at lunch). And don't be surprised if all the candidates are taken to lunch together: this happens frequently. One of my friends didn't get a job at one interview, but did meet someone (who also didn't get the job) who has become a regular co-researcher. You should aim to be pleasant and professional, whether talking with potential future colleagues, panel members, any secretaries or other administrative staff you meet (astonishingly, some candidates have not yet grasped this), and other candidates.

Probably at an awfully ironic and achingly hip art college or design bureau.

And even most of them seem horribly keen on the open neck shirt with a hideous Thom Browne suit.

As they say, don't dress as you would dress if you had the job you want - dress as you would dress if you had the job of your boss in the job you want. Or possibly their boss.

Although for me if I was going for my current job, with my current HoD, it would mean throwing out every piece of clothing that is not black. But our Dean usually wears suits, so that's about right.
