Greetings, O Wise Apples,

I seek delicious, ethnic and/or meatless food in, around and between the Convention Center and University areas of Minneapolis, MN. I will be there next week. I am on foot, but utterly undaunted by long walks. In particular I am interested in:

Middle-Eastern;
Indian;
Vegan/organic/hippy-dippy.

I also seek quality booze in the form of microbrews.

I look forward to your nuggety wisdom nuggets.

Harry Singh's was wonderful back in the day, and I have fond memories of Pho 79. There used to be a shuttle to Eat Street.

A local chain with a few locations. They were always good, although again, something smaller may be better.

The Indian place in Seven Corners (Jewel of India?) was pretty good, although the best in town was always Taste of India off 394 in St Louis Park.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I did not make it to any of these places, owing to constraints on, well, everything.

The best place I found to eat was in Dinkytown, called Tony's Diner. Classic diner menu, plus 2-for-1 beers on tap. Unlike everywhere else I ate, the service was not pretentious. The owner is a very nice guy too. That would be Tony.

I had good Thai food at The King & I, but really, $17 for a small bowl of tofu curry was just ridiculous. Downtown & Eat Street saw us coming and jacked prices out the roof.

I wanted to go to that Lebanese cafe, but it was just too far.

I see that the OP has come, eaten and left already. But I would just add that Mr. TH and I were disappointed by the Blue Nile -- it was *not* one of the better Ethiopian restaurants we've tried.

If this question is still open, the OP should really check out the Hard Times Cafe, very near the West Bank side of campus on Riverside Ave. All vegetarian, some vegan, all organic, grungy hippie/punk place. Open late, too.

The Townhall microbrewery also sounds like it would suit. That's also on the West Bank, on Washington Ave near the law school.

I used to live there so I know the area well.
