In one dumb and quick action, he has pretty much ruined any hopes of decent future employment. . . . . unless Perry give him a job on the cabinet.

I just like the fact they fired an unnecessary administrator!

I didn't know a knife could be Texan, though.

Not to get too excited, this John Sharp, the new chancellor of aTm, is also a long-time Texas politico, and a personal friend of Governor PrettyHair Perry. Sounds like political infighting to me. (Or, in Texan, since linguistic correctness has raised its head, a good old-fashioned Pissing Contest.)

I will take his firing as a plus. He was pulling in a 300k salary for basically being nothing more than an important Perry supporter. The job of "deputy chancellor" was apparently quite superfluous.

Just to establish a contrast that shows what we all know, that these incidents are handled with totally political motives, a few years ago a faculty member at aTm took out of his pocket an obviously toy plastic gun in front of one other person. The Dean freaked, and called the cops, who perp-walked him off campus. He was summarily fired (he was tenure-track).
The Perp sued (I think because the institution didn't follow its own dismissal procedures, it was vindictive firing, some other stuff), and won! Of course aTm dragged the case thru every court they could find in Texas, including the Texas Supreme Court. The initial finding in his favor was upheld at every level.
Does the contrast in these two cases look pretty clear? The powerful take care of the powerful, and they "take care" of the rest of us.
Coda: he asked the court to be reinstated on the faculty, and was. I saw in a general newsletter recently that he made tenure. The things you have to do to get tenure at aTm.

Since the story hit the LA Times, faculty are bidding on who plays them in the Hollywood movie that will surely be made. In the midst of crisis, humor.
