Longwood area, Boston?

I'll be staying in the Longwood area of Boston (Hospitals/Harvard Med School area) for about a week and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about cheap but good places to eat, or good running routes -- for a woman traveling alone (and heading back to my hotel late at night).

For running, perhaps the Riverway?

Longwood is not bad, but is nearish to some run down areas, so ask the locals (who work at Longwood) about when/where to go. I think days should be fine. The whole area is pretty built up, with restaurants and such, and there is also a T (subway) stop at Longwood. (And the Green Line T can be pretty busy at rush hour, a word to the wise.)

Adapting Zharkov a bit to this situation, ignorance and confusion can explain a lot.

Close to Northeastern and the MFA area (east) - if you are looking for 5K a day that is easy around there. If more, head north toward the Fens and downtown. Just avoid South (SE or SW). Lot's of little places to eat around Simmons and the hospitals. Northeastern is a 20 minute walk and lot's more around there.
