Today we were told that we would no longer have a 3-person Dissertation committee, we were going to a 2-member dissertation committee.  We have doctoral programs in Psych, Education & Business.  For-profit.  Has anyone heard of a 2-member committee?  Everywhere I worked there are 3 people on the doctoral committee.

Nope, only ever heard of 3-4 people on a committee, but that's in the sciences at nonprofit institutions.

No, 2 people total on a dissertation committee is ridiculous.

That's weird.

I had 5, but I think 4 was the minimum number at my Uni.

I have been associated with 2 universities and both required 5 members.

I'm not sure if, by definition, a committee can be made of two people.  Maybe. It's definitely well, well outside the norm.

I suspect that the external acceptance of this for-profit degree, aside from accreditation, is minimal.

3 internal and 1 external was the standard at my institution.  Was there a reason given for the change?

Cambridge has two member committees that examine you on your thesis (your supervisor is not one of them and doesn't take part in the examination).  Most other places I have been to/work at have a minimum of 3.
