Has anybody heard of this book? I bought it yesterday for a dollar last weekend at a stoop sale in Philly. It's an excellent read not only about the plight of the lowly adjunct in the semi-sanctified halls of academe but the plight of the down-at-heel, hand-to-mouth living urban wretched of the earth in America. It's also pretty funny. I'm curious if anybody's read it. You can tell this dude was really an adjunct!

Eh, I started reading it and found it a bit too mopey and self-serious.

Apathy is hard to fight. It won an award though http://kudera.blogspot.com/2011/01/url-links-for-fight-for-your-long-day.html

Did you buy it yesterday? Or last weekend?

Dear Marvin K. Mooney (with an "e"):

Will you please go now?

(Seriously, this is your book, right? Stop shilling it. You'll be banned for spamming.)

I don't know if Marvin is Kudera or not, but he certainly gets enough press in The Chronicle that he doesn't need to spam his own books.

I've read it, though. I like it quite a bit.

Hey, thanks for the "aye"s here and as for the "naye," thanks for at least giving the book a chance. The novel is supposed to be funny, too, although at times I can be decidedly "mopey and self-serious" in person. Anyway, the adjunct issue seems to be getting increased notice in The Chronicle, Inside Higher Ed, and elsewhere, so perhaps better wages and healthcare are on the way. New Faculty Majority already offers healthcare to adjuncts in many states and is worth checking out if this is an immediate concern for you. They also seem to be galvanizing the recent national interest in the issue. Well, I'm very grateful to anyone who takes a look at Fight for Your Long Day, and I hope the grading for you isn't too bad this Sunday.

Hey, welcome.  I hope you stick around.  Start a thread and you'll probably receive lots of queries about your book as well as publicity.

I didn't find it that funny. Maybe a few parts. I should read it again. Some situations in academia are darkly funny because you can't believe the bureaucratic neglect and misplaced priorities. If the reader comes away with the impression that higher education is mismanaged, then some people will be irritated.
