Walking in this morning there are definite signs of Autumn - the leaves on the horse chestnut tree near ScotiaU are turning yellow and red, from the train the deer are visible through the early morning mist, and Attila the Squirrel has started flinging acorns at me again. I don't know what this squirrel has against me (and whether it is just me, or the human race in general) but his/her aim is rather too good. I am dreading when the conkers become avialable..........

I've been pretty consistently in tights and boots (rather than legs and flats) for about 2 weeks now, though some of the few undergrad-types around town still appear to think it's beach weather.

Supposed to be 25 here tomorrow!
But yeah, my knees have been grumbling for a week or so.
One last barbecue tonight and that's it.

Even in the frozen north we reached 22C earlier, and I even spotted the alien while walking along the beach. Of course with the weekend looming we now have menacing cloud; I expect the forecasters are right and the heavy rain should roll in soon.

Scotia,
The remnants of Irene are on the way. Fairly warm, very humid, and just starting to be quite wet.
We haven't started moving towards Autumn yet, perhaps because we never really progressed to summer!

And I was planning to attend an outdoor event tomorrow....... We haven't started moving towards Autumn yet, perhaps because we never really progressed to summer!
Summer has passed us by entirely. I had been holding out some hope of an Indian Summer, but I have given up hope. When I start thinking I should hunt out gloves for the early mornings spent hanging around for a train it is time to accept that my summer was in December and early January in the Antipodes.

Today was summer, as far as I can tell. Unfortunately I have been indoors working and missed it all, but SO says it was actually hot out. I get to out tomorrow, just in time for the rain.

If it were still summer, I could hold out hope of a last-minute postgrad application or two to boost our miserable numbers. But. Nope.

And there would be hope that some of the students who have been accepted and want to come might actually get their visas in time to get here for this academic year.

I once walked into the room for postgrad orientation for my course thinking that I had 26 students from China, Africa, or India. There were only 6 students in the room... all from the UK....

And you promptly cancelled all your conference registrations for the year?

I'm fed up of this...each morning I think it's going to be cold and grey so I pull my tights and boots on and pack the girls off to the childminder in long sleeved tops and tights. By 11am it's 20-odd degrees and glorious sunshine. The one day when I thought I'd be clever and send them in summery stuff, it stayed cold and wet all day.
I've currently got my office windows open and the fan on.

You may well be appropriately dressed soon. We have gone from 20C and sunshine to 15C and torrential rain in less than an hour.
