holden caulfeild from the catcher in the rye, but hed probably keep calling me a phony. was one of the only books i read in high school (ya laugh, i was dumb).

I'd like to have his sister Phoebe to dinner.  She had her head on straight.

(IH, a gentle reminder: on these fora we use standard spelling/capitalization/punctuation/grammar.)

Will do my good man. ;]

A: You need a comma after the word "do."

B: Llanfair is no man. Surely, since you have undoubtedly followed the standard netiquette protocol of lurking in a community and coming to know it before posting, you know that.

C: [redacted]

VP

So I'm guessing you want me to get to know everyone before posting on here.

I'm guessing she doesn't want you to be presumptuous.

Bluebell from Watership Down would be good company.  I've always loved a witty poet.

I just re-read WD... why also Blackberry?

Kit Fielding from Dick Francis. Maybe dinner isn't the right word....

Now that would be a merry Christmas! :o)

Christopher Hitchens. The one in Hitch-22, not the real one.

ahh I built my list by borrowing from other posters and adding my own.

Charles Darney from a Tale of Two Cities
Mr. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice
Hermione Granger from Harry Potter
Lirael from the Abhorsen Series (great choice OP)
Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451

I don't want to admit how long it took me to make this list.

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter

Yes and yes.  :o)

I'm still stuck on Kit Fielding, though...

I just finished Lewis Black's book about Christmas, and I'd like to have him to dinner.

But then I remembered that he's actually a real person.  So I think I'd like to have Detective Sargeant Barbara Havers from Elizabeth George's novels for New Year's Eve.

Several that have already been mentioned, but apart from those, an adult version of Paloma Josse from The Hegehog (preferably movie version, but the book version would do).

Cornelia from Anne's House of Dreams;

I'd like to meet Susan Baker.

Yay! More people who love the later Anne books. I'd love to sit on the porch with you and listen to Miss Cornelia and Susan go at it. One of my favorite images was of Gilbert lying on the sofa just inside so that he could listen to Miss Cornelia criticize all the local menfolk.

Me too.  Bad man :)

I'd love to have Anne, Miss Cornelia, Marilla, and Mrs. Rachel.  Of course, we know Mrs. Rachel and Miss Cornelia wouldn't set horses.  I'd also love Miss Lavendar from Anne of Avonlea.   Jane from Jane of Lantern Hill would have to cook us a cake!  And let's not forget a place for Aunt Becky from A Tangled Web, if we can stand it.

Tyrion Lannister from the Song of Ice and Fire series
The Wife of Bath from The Canterbury Tales
Alanna of Trebond from The Alanna Quartet
Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings ... preferably alone, in some remote location ... (o.o)
Fred Weasley and George Weasley from Harry Potter

Lucky Hank from Straight Man by Richard Russo.  One of my favourite characters/narrators ever.

All four Musketeers. But then I would probably get stuck with a huge cleaning and repair bill.
