What are people's thoughts on applying several times for the same post-doc? I am currently on a post-doc and although I don't want another one, I feel compelled to apply since there may be very few jobs in my field this year.
So if I've been rejected for a given post-doc twice, should I not bother applying again or is it worth making a 3rd attempt? I should say that the post-docs I would apply for are the big, multi-year ones. I'm not willing to move for a 1-yr postdoc.

If your publication record has improved substantially, then apply again. If it hasn't, don't waste your time.

Sure, apply.  As long as it's a program, rather than an individual lab. Your changes after being rejected a couple times should be pretty small.

If you're not willing to move for a 1-year postdoc, and you're not getting multi-year funding, you're in the wrong line of business.
