Does anyone have a good recommendation for a college transition guide for a student starting at community college?  My friend's daughter is choosing to live at home and start there while she figures out what she wants to do in the future.  Both her parents were enlisted military, so she is first generation.

I have looked at the indexes and topic lists for a number of books on Amazon, and many seem to target the 4 year school, residential population (many chapters on clubs, Greek life, packing lists, roommates, etc), and seem a little thin on things like navigating the read tape and study skills concepts, which is, I think, the information she most needs at this time.

I would appreciate any suggestions the Fora might have!  Thank you!

I've used McWhorter's College Reading and Study Skills.  It is possible, however, that it would be required if the school has a study skills or intro to college or freshman seminar sort of class.

PS:  A used prior edition should be fine.

Foundations for Learning by Laurie L. Hazard, Jean-Paul Nadeau.  You can get the first two editions for very little on Amazon.  It is not full of pictures or stuff about drinking and STDs.  It is mainly about academics.
