Hi everyone, I am an H1B researcher in a US research university. Recently, I received an invitation to serve as an editorial board member of a scientific journal. As it is a volunteer position with no financial rewards, is it okey to accept the invitation? Will it violate any H1B rules? Please share your thoughts on this.
Thanks.

There shouldn't be any problems with it.  I know people who are on Editorial Boards where journals are based in other countries and no one has ever said anything.  Go ahead and accept the invite.

It's fine.  It may even help with your green card application.

As you aren't being paid for this, I can't see how there is any issue. I was an associate editor of a journal etc. while in the US on an H1B.

The restriction is on accepting another form of employment, so you should be okay. The journal could however reimburse you for any travel expenses incurred in the course of your editorial duties.
