Do not take the bait

But just think about all the spam you never saw because it got deleted before you came across it!

From this morning up until now, I have gotten rid of at least 11 spammers and all the posts they'd made. The other day I got 13 before breakfast.

This is even more impressive given that today, Vox is out of town, barely on the peripheries of the grid, and had to be up to desalinate her own water and field-dress a moose . . . all before she even got to the spam-zapping!

That's not even the half of it! ;)

Seniorscholar, that poster has already been reported, so you don't need to do anything. For future reference, though, you can report a PM the same way that you can report a post. If you want to send a link to the spammer's profile to a member-mod, we will be sure it gets reported (at least one of us probably got the same PM; I know I did and I bet I'm not the only one).

VP

Spam, responsibility, blah blah blah.  Tell us more about the moose.

These member mods are really on the ball. Or maybe they don't have time to clean spam.

If people insist on spamming, I wish they would at least be vaguely competent. Why waste time spamming about stone crushing machinery on an academic forum. I think we should demand a better class of spammer.

Confused and sad. Or happy. I'm not sure...

This morning, spam thread A has been replied to by spammer B. I appreciate their attempts to minimize the spread of their crap to other threads. It also makes clean up easier.

I'm not volunteering, but are there any moderators in Yoo-rup or Asia? Because when I click on "Unread posts" in the (UK) morning, half the first page is usually spam.  Since the US moderators probably don't want to do this in the middle of the night, can you pressgang someone in an earlier time zone?

They took the job. They need to set their alarms at about 3am when the European markets start opening. It is their duty to clean the spam. Doesn't matter the time.

I may regret saying this, but if you need someone to do simple spam sweep at around midnight PST each night, I might be able to do that. Around that time of night, I spend half my time reporting spam anyway.

If I get a SPAM message on the forum here, who do I report that to?  Thanks.

You mean a spam PM? Report that to "moderator."

This post is fantastic! This is most complete explanation of these new capabilities that I’ve seen yet. Thank you for this very timely explanation.
