Academia, thy name is paranoia

« on: June 06, 2011, 10:11:00 PM »

Just wondering...as a female academic in a tenure-track job I took a week off during my miscarriage.  I opted for medically induced and bled heavily (probably TMI...Sorry), and I was still spotting when I came back to teaching.  Was a week too much?  How long have other people taken?

I took a week off.  It's completely justified.

I'm sorry for your loss, instructorg.

Thank you.  I just found out I am pregnant again, so I am revisiting some of the things I couldn't deal with before.

I understand your fears, Instructorg.  The first trimester is such a fragile period.  I remember the constant and simultaneous feelings of elation and all-encompassing worry all too well.

Be well.  Check in on the pregnancy thread when you can:  http://chronicle.com/forums/index.php/topic,75817.0/topicseen.html

I took off a week, but I should have taken more. (Mine was 21 weeks; I had to deliver. I was an emotional mess for the rest of the semester and my work didn't help me the way I thought it would.)

My sympathies, Instructororg, and my best wishes for the new pregnancy.
