I'm about to apply for a post at TCD, or at least I think I might. The post is an excellent fit, although really it's more an application to a big funding body there for an independent Career Development Fellow award.

I've done a search and have not been able to pull up many recent posts on the state of scientific funding and/or future career options. Obviously, recent information is critical, in light of the financial state the country is in.

I could take it as a 4-year post then move on to a Lectureship elsewhere, but (at this point) the science at TCD is excellent, and it looks very much so like a place I'd like to stay.

I'm an American, been in the UK for the past 4-5 years, and am much happier on this side of the Atlantic. How are American expats viewed? Cost of living and etc. advice also welcomed!

Many thanks in advance for any insight,
K
