Totoro is right the tube can be hot especially in summer. Not much you can do about it except avoid the tube or remember to wear light clothing on the tube. The trains are not a problem. I recently took the national rail about an hour each way and it was fine in fact it was air conditioned. Also had wifi on the train albeit slow service.

Which conferences are people going to? There's one in my discipline in London in July as well, the 14th and 15th, which I am considering.

I hope no one is flying into Heathrow on Thursday - Air passengers warned of disruption. The advice from officials appears to be, "Try not to fly on Thursday." How many people could actually change their flight at this point in the process without paying significant change fees?

"That's a great deal to make one word mean," Alice said in a thoughtful tone. "When I make a word do a lot of work like that," said Humpty Dumpty, "I always pay it extra."

Oog! And Passport Control is not air-conditioned, and it bloody well should be. It took us over an hour to get to the head of the queue last July, and I honestly thought I might pass right out. I can't imagine how bad it would be with fewer booths open.

It is air conditioned in T5. You, alas, were in T3, which has replaced T2 as my definition as one of the inner circles of hades since my experiences there last year.

T5 is the new BA one, right? Obviously Heathrow is still discriminating against colonials. <looking up contact info for human-rights commission>

They're equal-opportunity discriminators at Heathrow. They hate *everybody*. They merely tolerate BA because of the profits.

I just pulled out my Blackstone's Guide to the Equality Act 2010 and it singles out Canadians specially: Meaning of a racial group: "a 'Canadian' may be defined by nationality or ethnic or national origin." [Sect. 2.60] and it is lawful therefore to discriminate against you Canadians in immigration [Sect. 5.81]

Actually, in all fairness, I like Heathrow. For a big airport, it's very well signed, and at least it has lots of places to get coffee ... and loos for after your coffee-rental has ended.
