This isn't a CHE article, but it's fun all the same.

I'm thinking there's probably no hell, either.

Well, when he gets to meet his maker he can argue with him about creation, etc.  I feel sorrta sad for the guy, seeing as he thinks he's the brightest bulb in the universe and will soon enough, at least in relative time, realize he is wrong.

I feel sort of sad for people who need fantasies to deal with reality.

There's a special place in hell for those with improperly punctuated, boring subject lines.

I, for one, am shocked.  SHOCKED.

As a non-believer in heaven, hell, and any deity I have heard of so far, I just don't care whether Stephen Hawking thinks heaven is a fairytale.  It won't change the opinion of anyone of faith, whether that faith is the perfectly pleasant God-expects-me-to-make-the-world-a-better-place type or the grating arrogant God-wants-me-to-annoy-others-and-make-the-world-conform-to-my-narrow-minded-bigotry types.  If anything, the latter group will be louder and more annoying for a while in response.  And, it doesn't make my position more secure.  The existance of heaven is independent of Stephen Hawking's opinion of it.

I really don't see the point of this story being posted here.  Given the OP's history (see, Plunkett, you're not the only one who can make an issue a character commentary on the poster) I'm guessing it's an attempt to ridicule people of faith.  Which is fine (thought not my thing), I guess, if you're 100% confident your own world view is rational and untouched by any cultural or social conventions masquerading as truth.

I look forward to his upcoming statements concerning the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, and Cthulhu.

I was dead before I was alive, I'll be dead after I am alive. Seems pretty simple to me.

Dr. Hawking is entitled to his worldview, as are the rest of us.  As this is not a controversy that can be settled by science or reason, I suggest we move on.  Nothing new to see here.  Many folks believe many things.

Yes, but what about the rapture, scheduled for Saturday. We will find out all the answers then. Supposedly, the world is ending on Saturday. I am hearing it on the radio, seeing it on billboards, and a guy handed me a brochure about it in the Barnes and Noble. Then two tables of people sitting next to me started discussing it. If you haven't been informed yet, the world is ending on Saturday. The people calling the radio show were interested to know about pesky things like time zones for judgement day.  So, May 21 is the end of the world. Whatever you have planned for Sunday is toast.
The good thing is that after Saturday, I won't have to hear about this whole thing anymore.

So you mean I won't have to grade those papers after all?
That's the best news I've had all day.
