Cheating is rampant, but the wider culture seems to have embraced a "by any means possible" strategy, so why should we be surprised students cheat at any level and with any teaching method?

But it's kind of a "duh" that cheating in online classes (or just letting your helpful helicopter mother "do" the course for you) is rampant.

Yeah, it cuts out the middleman in the whole helicoptering business.  So the student gets the degree or whatever, and heads out into the 'real world.'  But wait, they're back home already?  Can't find a job that said parent can do remotely for them?  Bummer...
