We're leaving today for the hospital, where Spouse is scheduled for an angiogram. His stress test a month ago indicated the possibilty of blockages. I've spent the last week being strong and reassuring for him, and now...I'm a wreck. I know this is a basic and routine procedure, that the cardiologist does several of these every single week, and that Spouse is in the best possible hands.
I'm still terrified that something horrible will happen during the procedure, or that the blockages will so serious that they will require bypass surgery. These feelings are not rational, but they are very strong.
Please keep us in your thoughts today.

Hugs from here, too.
Do you have someone to sit with you while he's having the procedure done? Aimless talking about nothing can help pass the time, and some support for you is important.

Yes, I have our adult daughter and a close family friend with me. They just took him back; it'll be an hour or so before we know anything.

Hi theatremom,
You are correct -- your spouse's doctor most likely does hundreds of these. I say this not to minimize your concern but to reassure you that the doctor will be very experienced and know just how to keep your spouse safe. And the information they can get from an angiogram can be life-saving. We're thinking of you.

He's out, and the news is very good -- they found NO blockages at all. There is some concern that the dye used in the test might hurt his already-damaged kidneys, so he'll have to see his nephrologist on Monday for a kidney function test, but other than that, we are in the clear. He's doing fine, recovering from the anesthesia, and has eaten lunch.
I'm so relieved. Thanks for all the good thoughts, everyone.

Great to hear that, theatremom. The tests are scary, but knowing is better than not knowing (especially when its news like this!).

The kidney test was fine -- his kidney function has actually improved over the past few months. Even his cholesteral was good news: bad stuff under 100, good stuff above 100. His cardiologist is more than a little impressed, and I continue to feel both relieved and blessed.
Thanks for all the good thoughts.
