It took four years, countless cross-country flights, a lot of behind the scenes angling and strategizing, and much stress and anxiety, but the partner and I nailed down two tt jobs at the same school. I've been a tt faculty member here for the last few years. Partner and I have been teaching and producing like crazy and in the end what made it happen was multiple outside offers for me.
I've been checking in here regularly, mostly as a lurker, looking for advice and commiseration, so just wanted to check back with my update. We worked our butts off for this, but we're also extraordinarily lucky, and hope that others on the board are likewise moving towards a resolution of their two-body problems.
I'd be glad to discuss some of the particulars of my process, if you want to PM me.

Correct, as usual, TZ. That's because you are not Dude. TZ, however, is Dude. TZ is my favorite. I wish YOU began with A.

You won! Congratulations. My husband and I have only been doing this for a year; I can't imagine how difficult four years must have been.
You're my hero.

smithfieldmuse, it was a rough road mentally, I won't lie, but at some point, I resigned myself to a number of possibilities. I made peace with the possibility that one of us might have to give up an academic career or that I might be the sole breadwinner. There were times when I wanted to throw in the towel, but I actually decided at the beginning of this year that I'd try the market one more time. If it didn't work out, then my partner and I would have to rethink our lives and future. I don't know if it helped, but my attitude toward my interviews was much different this year, because I had fully accepted the possibility that things might not work out and we'd still be okay. Before I was truly terrified at that possibility.
Good luck to you.

Congratulations. I hope it works out well for both of you.
If either I or my fiancée or both of us don't get tenure here, we may be in a similar position a few years down the road.

Congrats!
Much of the advice here has been that you need outside offers to make it happen and your story supports that. Thanks for posting.

Congratulations! It took my partner and I almost 10 years. I left a research university just as I was about to go up for tenure to start over as an Asst. Prof. at my partner's teaching institution where he was already tenured.
Do I have any advice? Not really. I published, he published, and at the end of the day it was sheer dumb luck that something opened up in my field and I made the short short list.

Way to go! I've tried the long distance thing in the past, but have never been able to make it work in the long run. I'm happy for you and you give me hope.

Congrats! I think the moral of the story here is that as much as we'd like to get new jobs and take our partners with us, it's far more likely for an academic couple to end up with two TT positions if one partner goes on the market, gets outside offers, angles for a position for the partner, and then stays put. But one person has to not only be at an institution where such a situation is feasible down the road he or she also needs to be really competitive in order to attract outside offers and convince the home institution to pony up. And the partner needs to be a really good catch too. So there are a lot of factors involved, essentially A-G.
A=Home institution that wants to retain top faculty B=Awesome partner #1 C=Really great partner #2 D=Outside offers E=Departments open to the possibility F=Administrators open to the possibility G=Funds available
Clearly spousal offers are more of a faculty retention tool than a faulty recruitment tool, at least based on many of the examples cited here.

Congrats! That's fantastic. I actually just recently accepted a position at my spouse's institution after several years at different universities, so I have an idea of how you are feeling. It's kind of like winning the lottery!
