Those of us who entered the scene in fall 2006 should either have submitted, or are ready to submit, their tenure packages / portfolios.

How are things looking?

Someone tenured and close to the action has said that this round of packages in the department "looks solid."

I hope so. I'm about 15 years older than the typical "fresh out of Ph.D." assistant prof., so I'm not sure I could start over - I don't think anyone would hire me.

Hi southerntransplant! I had been kind of looking forward to this thread, so thanks for starting it. Yes my file is due this summer and I am getting nervous. Not that there seems to be anything specific to worry about, but it is kind of important after all...

Mine's due in the fall; I'm feeling pretty good about it.

We have a slightly shorter clock here, so my file's already been approved up to the president, and is awaiting Board approval (rubber-stamping?).  Whee!

Congratulations turing_complete! It must be a relief!

Wow, I am impressed by how the rest of you all sound so confident. I will not feel comfortable until I actually have my next contract in my hand and it says Associate Professor on it. I am definitely looking forward to the summer though. My file will be in and I will be free to work as I wish.

As often as tenured colleagues have told me not to worry, I'm with you, Rambling. You don't have it until you have it.

That said, I've also been told that, in sane departments, there are no surprises, since the yearly evaluations would give you a clear picture whether or not you were going to hit that trajectory - and thus far the picture has been positive.

Southerntransplant, thanks for asking!  Good luck next year!  What's your timeline like?

My situation is the same as turing_complete's - just waiting on Board approval.  Although I agree with rambling about not feeling 100% until I have the contract in hand, around here there has never been a case of non-approval when all other levels were nothing but positive.

Hurray, us!

Department vote in August. Final letter yea or nay next March.

So is it like applying for a college: fat envelope = good, thin envelope = bad, postcard = uh oh ?

And I just got my letter from the Board.

It's DONE!!!

Now I just have to wait until July 1 for it to kick it, and then I'll be Associate Professor with tenure.

Wow.

Like Turing, we're on a short clock, and files were due early last fall.  We are in a state with a decoupled process, so tenure is conferred (or not) by the end of the Fall semester. We go up for promotion in separately, and those files have almost made it to the top of the hierarchy.  Some concerns that state budget issues and contract negotiations could interrupt/derail the final conferring of title and pay increase, which doesn't happen until the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester. I'm told not to lose sleep over it. Fingers crossed.

turing_complete, congratulations!  (To you, and me - same as of August).

southerntransplant, ours were just 1-5 page letters (the president's being the thinnest), so at least at my uni it's the opposite (i.e., department - thick - defend your candidate... president - thin - here's some tenure with a side of promotion for ya').

Turned mine in yesterday.  Found out today one article under review was accepted!  Of course, I sent frantic update :)

Chair of Dept. T&P hates me - I expect hu to trash my dossier.  Don't care.  Everyone else is very positive, so I'll just ride that tide!

Two colleagues are leaving (one very suddenly). I will be virtually the only one in my subfield. That's not fun.

Immediate boss says that this will strengthen my tenure case. I thought it was strong enough without having to be the last man standing.
