So what does it actually mean that the depositor/ 'member's 'own' the Cu?  What is the nature of their ownership rights?

It is a coop.

You can vote for the directors of the organization.

Im not sure what else I can tell you.

Banks hate them as they dont have to pay taxes, so their expenses are lower.  As I indicated they usually pay higher interest rates too.

Since they are local, they are often more responsive to the customers/owners.

CUs must be non-profit, right, so the members do not actually earn a dividend, as though they were stockholders?  I assume this set-up is similar to the set-up of 'mutual' insurance cos., like Amica?

They are such imbeciles.

I can't believe the hoops I have to jump through to pay this freaking bill EVERY month.

I have half a mind to write them a letter and say the debt isn't mine, and if they think it is they need to prove it--they can't even find that it exists--so I'm sure they'd have a hard time proving it.

They don't deserve to get their money. They really don't.

I could tell you all the things they'd done, but it's too unbelievable.

I am going to make these clowns prove the debt. I've had enough.

So this is like the, "produce the note" thing with mortgages?  Good luck!  Seriously!

Yup. They might be able to prove it, but minimally, I want to inconvenience them as much as they've inconvenienced me.

I should not break down in tears when I attempt to pay a bill because no one will take my money or they won't take a Chase card or they don't believe I am who I say I am or they can't find the account or they disconnect me, or they transfer me sixteen times.

And I talked to a patronizing little f*** branch manager yesterday, too.

I'm going to make them prove the debt just for the fun of it.

I just received spam email that came from Wells Feargo.  Seems appropriate some how.
